Who's driving this thing?
Faith means trusting God to take us where we need to go, even when we don’t know the route, the timing, or what the journey will look like. All that matters is that He’s at the wheel
One day, I was talking with my mom, and in the middle of our conversation, something clicked.
If we don’t even know where we’re going… why are we always trying to tell God when to turn, stop, or slow down?
We want control over every detail of our lives, even the parts we’ve supposedly surrendered to Him.
But faith doesn’t work like that.
Faith means trusting God to take us where we need to go, even when we don’t know the route, the timing, or what the journey will look like. All that matters is that He’s at the wheel.
I remember when I was single, constantly wondering, When will I meet the right person?
Then, when I did, the question changed to, When are we getting married?
No matter what God was doing, it never seemed fast enough for me.
And if we’re honest, many of us live like that. We pray, “Lord, take control,” but then sit in the passenger seat trying to give Him directions.
So the real question becomes:
Have you truly surrendered the wheel?
Because you can’t claim to trust God while still trying to manage everything yourself.
There’s an old hymn that says:
“Trust and obey, for there is no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”
We’ve sung those words for years. We’ve prayed those prayers. We’ve stood at the altar saying we’re laying our burdens down.
But how often do we pick them right back up before we even leave?
We say, “I cast all my cares upon You,” yet we still carry the weight as if it all depends on us.
Worrying about what you can’t fix doesn’t move you forward; it just exhausts you.
God is fully capable of leading your life better than you ever could. He’s the One who made a way through the sea, brought water out of the desert, and created paths where none existed.
If He can do that, surely He can handle your future.
So when you ask, “Who’s driving this thing?”
The answer depends on one thing:
Who have you really given the wheel to?
Today’s Reminder — Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct your paths.”
Let Him drive.
