Get Out of the Spotlight
Sometimes, without even realizing it, we bring the world’s ideas of image, status, and visibility into a place that was meant to center completely on God.
It was Music Day at church this weekend, and the sanctuary was filled with incredible talent. Musicians from across the community came together, and the service overflowed with singing, instruments, and celebration. Even the sermon was shortened to make room for the music.
It was a beautiful day of worship.
But as I sat there, I found myself reflecting on something else - how easy it is for the focus to shift from worship… to recognition.
Sometimes, without even realizing it, we bring the world’s ideas of image, status, and visibility into a place that was meant to center completely on God.
The church was never designed to be a stage for personalities. It was meant to be a place where every gift, every talent, and every act of service points back to Him.
There is nothing wrong with being blessed. God is the giver of every good thing. But those blessings were never meant to elevate us above others; they were meant to be used to serve.
We are blessed so that we can bless.
Scripture reminds us:
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
That means no rankings. No status. No hierarchy of worth.
The only One worthy of the spotlight is God:
- He is the giver of the talent.
- He is the source of the ability.
- He is the One who sacrificed for us.
- He is the One we worship.
Everything we do should reflect Him - not ourselves.
There’s a song lyric that says:
“Make me invisible, so they only see You inside of me.”
That should be our prayer.
Our goal is not to be seen, it’s to let Christ be seen through us.
As humans, we appreciate recognition. Encouragement is a good thing. But we must guard our hearts so that appreciation never becomes self-promotion.
Because without Him, we are nothing.
Let’s take a moment to reflect and make sure we are not standing in God’s way.
Serve with humility.
Use your gifts faithfully.
But step out of the spotlight and let Him receive the glory.
Today’s Thought
“The first shall be last, and the last shall be first.”
God is no respecter of persons; He uses all of His children in His service.
