Check Your Heart Posture - Sermon Recap
And when our hearts are right, God can entrust us with greater influence - not because we seek it, but because we can handle it with humility.

Key Scripture:
“Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people… You serve the Lord Christ.” - Colossians 3:23–24
Reflection
Have you ever watched someone who genuinely loves what they do?
They don’t drag themselves into it.
They don’t need applause.
They serve with joy, go the extra mile, and give their best - even when no one is watching.
Then you see someone else doing the same thing… but it feels different.
Same task. Same environment. Same opportunity.
So what’s the difference?
It’s the posture of the heart.
God is not just concerned with what we do.
He is deeply concerned with why we do it.
Your Heart Posture Determines Your Impact
We often measure effectiveness by visibility- how much was done, how many people saw it, how well it looked.
But Heaven measures something else entirely.
You can sing and still not minister.
You can teach and still not reach.
You can serve and still miss the assignment.
Why? Because impact in God’s Kingdom flows from alignment of the heart.
When your heart is postured toward God:
- You serve with joy - even when it’s inconvenient.
- You remain faithful - even when no one notices.
- You keep going - even when it’s uncomfortable.
Your audience is not people.
Your audience is the Lord.
True Ministry Begins When We’re Willing to Kneel
In John 13, Jesus - the One with all authority - wrapped Himself in a towel and washed His disciples’ feet.
He didn’t do it to prove a point.
He did it to reveal the nature of service in God’s Kingdom.
Service is not about position.
It’s about posture.
And the most challenging part?
He washed Judas’ feet too.
That means love and service are not reserved for the deserving.
They are expressions of obedience to God.
We don’t get to choose who is “worthy” of kindness.
We simply follow Christ’s example.
Service Is a Privilege, Not a Favor
Sometimes we subconsciously treat service like we’re doing God a favor.
But the truth is:
God doesn’t need us - He invites us.
He chooses to work through us, shape us, and trust us to carry His message.
We are not the source.
We are the vessels.
And when our hearts are right, God can entrust us with greater influence - not because we seek it, but because we can handle it with humility.
Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19–20 to make disciples wasn’t given only to leaders.
It was given to every believer.
But we cannot reach people if we are more focused on recognition than relationships.
A heart aligned with God asks:
- Not “What do I gain?”
- But “Who can I serve?”
Ministry is rarely about platforms.
More often, it happens in ordinary moments - quiet acts of faithfulness that point someone toward Christ.
A Personal Heart Check
Today’s invitation is simple but searching:
- Am I serving out of duty or devotion?
- Am I seeking recognition or obedience?
- Am I offering God my hands… but holding back my heart?
God is not looking for perfect people.
He is looking for surrendered hearts.
Prayer:
Father, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Help me to serve not for approval, but out of love for You. Strip away pride, comparison, and obligation, and replace them with joy, humility, and willingness. Let my service become worship, and my obedience reflect Your character. Use not just my actions, but my heart, for Your glory.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Journal Prompt:
Where in my life have I been “checking the box” instead of serving from the heart?
What would it look like to offer that area back to God as worship this week?
